Kochi: The doyen of jurisprudence has bid adieu. Concluding his century-long journey on this earth, the light of law and conscience of society, Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer breathed his last at a private hospital here at 3.30 p.m. on Thursday after being hospitalised for nearly ten days.

His condition was bad in the past couple of days with cardiac and renal functioning going awry and the situation deteriorated  on Tuesday after he suffered a stroke that paralysed his left side. He also developed pneumonia and all these led to multiple organ failure which resulted in his death.

A team of specialist doctors was  attending on him and one of them, Dr Manu Varma, said at a press conference that Iyer had been suffering from  hypertension  for the past 30 years. He had a minor stroke in 2006 but had been maintaining overall good health.
