This year has been favourable for debutant directors. Yet another debutant director Vema Reddy's film‘Chakkiligintha’ starring Sumanth Aswin and Rehhana as the lead pair hit the thteatres this Friday. Touted to be a romantic comedy, Vema Reddy comes from Sukumar School of direction, so the film creates some sort of curiosity.

Adi (Sumanth Ashwin) and Avantika or Avi (Rehhana) are studying in the same college. Adi is a love guru and advises boys not to express their love for girlfriends until they reveal their true feelings. On the other side Avi comes to know that Adi is the person behind the sudden change in the boys and challenges that she will make Adi to fall in love with her. Did she succeed in her challenge, what did Adi do as his part is the crux of the story?

Director Vema Reddy chooses a love story subject as his debut. Though the makers says that it’s a new concept in the promotions, but the subject is an old one and nothing new. The story reveals around a simple challenge made by the girl and later she reveals that she just acted. Later the boy proved that she can’t act in love and she is in love with him. Though the director made san interesting first half, but when it comes to the second half, it ends like a regular film. The college campus and lot of friends and a few jokes started off well with lot of entertainment, but when he reveals the plot nothing interesting.

When it comes to the performance, the lead pair Sumanth Ashwin and Rehhana has done a remarkable job. For Sumanth, this is a good performance as an actor and he matured a lot, when compares to his earlier three films. He puts lot of effort and does a decent performance as boy next door. On the other hand Rehhana as Avantika too supported well and does a neat performance. Though, this is her first Telugu film, but she performed as a seasoned actress. The big minus is comedian Thaguboth Ramesh’s love track. Actually it is not suited for the actor and it is a completely misfired. There are many other small comedians and they provided a few laughs.

Micky J Meyer provided the music and a few songs are nice and also picturised well. The cinematography is also good and catches the beautiful locations of Vizag and other parts. Jayanth provided the dialogues, which are normal and regular. It is surprised that the same writer penned dialogues for some of the earlier blockbusters like ‘Arya’, ‘Dil’ and ‘Race Gurram’. When compare to those films, in this film the dialogues are normal.

Finally director Vema Reddy succeed only in parts in his debut’s venture. Except the lead pair good performance and a few jokes here and there, the film offers nothing.
