KOZHIKODE: “Come and taste the radiance of night,”  was the catch line that drove many women in the city to Kozhikode beach on Monday night who were afraid to go to the  beach till the previous night. Many called it ‘Occupy City Beach’ in tune with the  ‘Occupy Wall Street’ campaign.

The night gathering, a brainchild of noted activist and writer Civic Chandran, was aimed at addressing the issue of shrinking social spaces and restricted public life of women.

Smitha S, one of the organizers,  told  DC on the beach, “the gathering is not  a pre-planned one; instead it will be a platform for the women community to freely enjoy the beauty of night space in the city.

With just an invitation post on Facebook we have got an enormous response from the folks,” she said. “By 10 p.m. we will start with acquainting ourselves with each other as many of them would be strangers, and we will plan how to spend the night after the get-together,”  she added.

“We may sing songs, recite poems or walk along the beach as per the suggestions of the participants,” she added.

The event heralds the upcoming ‘Kiss of Love’ protest to be held here on December 7.  On the eve of the ‘Kiss of Love’ protest, ‘Color of tranz,’ a transgender group from Chennai, will organise a theatre show.
