Capital with National Highway linked waterway
Tulluru is seen as the first capital city with direct waterway
Guntur: After Tulluru was announced as the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, the steamer service between Rayapudi of Guntur district and Ibrahimpatnam of Krishna district available from 6.30 am to 6 pm is gaining popularity. And because of this waterway, Tulluru is seen as the first capital city with direct waterway from Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Kolkata National Highway.
The residents of Tullur, Rayapudi and other villages of the capital region have to travel 30 to 36 km to reach Vijaya-wada, but the waterway reduced the distance to 16 km only.
A farmer of Nekkallu village of the capital region U. Raja Rao said, “We reach Krishna district by paying '22 fare in 20 minutes by steamer. This will be of more help for the villagers of the capital region, once the capital city is constructed”.
From Ferry village one can reach Rayapudi by steamer and then go to Tulluru, which is 3-km away by autorickshaw.
Realtor S.K. Basha said that this is the only capital city with a Highway-linked waterway. Hence the government should modernise it by introducing boats and cruises.
