Hyderabad: The Seventh Special Magistrate Court at Erramanzil sentenced filmmaker Jeevitha Rajasekhar to two years rigorous imprisonment in a cheque bounce case on Monday.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh. However, the court granted bail to the actress who is also a BJP leader after she paid the fine.

In January, one Sama Chandrashekar Reddy, a producer approached the court complaining that Jeevitha Rajesekhar had bought proprietary rights of the 2007 movie, “Evadaithe Nakenti” starring her husband Dr Rajasekhar and Samvrutha Sunil in the lead roles. She was about to pay Rs 23,75,000 as per the agreement and she reportedly issued about seven cheques worth the same amount.

“Only two cheques of hers were honored and I received Rs 2 lakh. She has to pay Rs 21,75,000 still. Even after repeated requests, I didn’t receive the balance amount. Hence I approached the court,” said Mr  Reddy.

The court examined took up the case and after almost eight years the court convicted Jeevitha under Section 138.
