NIZAMABAD: The detection of chain snatching cases has become difficult for the police in Nizamabad district.

Not only professional criminals, students, jewellery shop owners and others are also involved in chain snatching in the district. As a result the police is unable to keep watch on old offenders and detect cases.

According to District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) statistics 107 chain snatching cases were reported in Nizamabad district from January 1, 2014 till date.

Around 215 tolas of gold worth Rs 64 lakh were lost in these incidents. Central Crime Station (CCS) officials and police have detected just 31 cases, have arrested 28 persons and recovered 43 tolas of gold.

Speaking to DC, SP S. Chandrasekhar Reddy said that they are trying to trace all chain snatching cases in the district. During investigation we found some students and jewellery shop owners were involved in chain snatching, he said.

Professional criminals will be identified, but the new chain snatchers are making it difficult for the police, he added.

Rajamani, (name changed) of Adarshnagar colony said she removes her ornaments including Mangalasutram while going for morning walks.

“Chain snatching is not just loss of property. It also hurts our sentiments,” she added. She urged the police brass to deal with chain snatching cases strictly.
