R Obulesu a police constable from the excise department, is to be brought to Hyderabad on Friday morning as part of the investigation into the KBR Park shooting.

Hyderabad: Police constable R. Obulesu will remain a big worry for the police even after his arrest.

Experts says that there is a very high chance of Obulesu, who has in depth knowledge of anti-naxal operations due to his stint in the Greyhounds, interacting with Maoists in jail.

Police thinks that now he can be easily lured by the Maoists as he has been exposed as a criminal and has zero commitment to law enforcement agencies. Police officials say that there should be extra surveillance on Obulesu in prison and outside in case he comes out on bail.

A local court on Saturday remanded Obulesu for two weeks in connection with the attempt to kidnap Aurobindo Pharma vice chairman K. Nityananda Reddy.

He had opened fire with an AK-47 which he had stolen from the Greyhounds armoury last year at K. Nityananda Reddy when he resisted the attempt.

During interrogation Obulesu confessed that he was planning to escape into the jungle on the night of his arrest as he was an expert in jungle warfare and survival.

He said that as the law and order police would never step into the forests it would have been easy for him to hide in the forests indefinitely.

“He had read the newspaper in the morning and found himself named. He withdrew money from his account and was planning to sneak into the jungle between Kurnool and Kadapa.

He told the police that he was confident that he will never be caught as he could live in the forest indefinitely,” an official said. For the next 14 days Obulesu will remain at the Chanchalguda prison.

Officials who have understood the psychological condition of Obulesu during interrogation said that he is likely to become more dangerous in future.

“In prison it’s normal for criminals to forge contacts and set up gangs. They commit more serious crimes once they are out. Obulesu has all chances of meeting Maoists and other dangerous jail inmates.

He has good knowledge about the planning and execution of anti-naxal operations. It’s really a matter of concern that he might pass it on for money,” said a police official.

The prison authorities have to keep him away from such elements inside jail. Hyderabad police officials say that if Obulesu comes out of prison, there will be extra surveillance on him.

Obulesu, who had only a few friends in the police department used to stay alone in a rented apartment and spend money lavishly.

Police said that he was addicted to sex and that he never got married although he was 37 years old.
