Hyderabad: Pradeep Gangireddy’s parents wanted him to study abroad. But Pradeep wanted to do things on his own terms. And thanks to his determination to follow his dreams, the 22-year-old made not just his family, but also the city proud when he recently stood second in Godrej Innovation Award, a national competition.

“The contestants were supposed to draw a symbol for innovation much like the symbol for Indian Rupee. I submitted my design after spending a week on it. The entries were submitted a couple of months ago and the results were announced last week,” he says.

“My father works in a pharmaceutical company and my mother is a housewife. When I told my parents about my desire to pursue this line of work, they were apprehensive. But they were supportive when they realised how determined I was,” says Pradeep, who recently graduated from an animation school.

At first glance, Pradeep’s award-winning design looks like the top of a hot air balloon. But if you look closely, the symbol is a reverse ‘!’ and also alphabet ‘i’, all combined in one. “The theme was ‘innovation’, so I tried to play around with the alphabet ‘i’ and the exclamation mark,” says Pradeep.
