Viral fever cases surge in East Godavari district

As many as 94 dengue cases registered till October this year

KAKINADA: Viral fever cases are increasing in East Godavari district. As many as 29 patients, including eight children, were  admitted to Government General Hospital (GGH) herein  the last few days. 
 
A special ward has been set up to treat  them. The fever cases are high in Vasalapalem village of  K. Gangavaram mandal. Some patients were from  Swamy-nagar in Kakinada rural mandal,  Panduru and  Panasapadu in Samalkot mandal. Doctors say dengue symptoms were observed in some patients. 
 
“Blood samples  have been sent for labs to identify the fevers,” said GGH  superintendent P.V. Budha, adding that special treatment  was being given to the patients by deputing special team of  doctors and health personnel.  
 
District medical and health officer Dr. M. Pavan Kumar said that special care was being taken care in villages  where viral fever is spreading. 
 
“We are sending special  teams to the villages soon after receiving the information. A special medical camp has been set up in Vasalapalem  village. We are dispatching ambulance to bring patients to  government hospital in Kakinada from affected villages, so  that patients do not fall prey to private doctors who fleece  them in the name of dengue,” he said. 
The DMHO requested the people to  approach medical and  health personnel, if they suffer from viral fever.  
 
Meanwhile, there has been a rise in malaria and dengue  cases compared to last year. While the number of malaria  case was 3,568 in 2013-14, it rose to 3,701 up to October,  2014. As many as  94 dengue cases registered till October  this year as against 34 last year.  
 
The Bharatiya Kisan Morcha state general secretary Y.  Malakondaiah urged the district officials to improve  sanitation, supply protected drinking water among others to  prevent fever cases. He said that the people should  participate in Swachh Bharat  programmes for keeping  their village clean for a healthy environment.
