Rajasthan: Woman stripped, paraded on donkey as punishment

Thirty people have been arrested so far in the case

Jaipur: In a shocking case of mob justice, a woman in Thurawad village in Rajsamand district, Rajasthan was stripped and paraded on a donkey after being accused of killing her nephew.

Members of the village also blackened her face with coal dust and cut her hair. The police has registered an FIR and claims to have arrested 30 people in this regard.

“We have taken action against 30 people. The District collector and Superintendent of Police have also visited the spot. People who called the panchayat have been named in the FIR,” said Anand Srivastava, Inspector general of Police, Udaipur range.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, the woman was punished after being accused of killing her nephew, Vardi Singh, who reportedly died under mysterious circumstances.

Singh's family held the funeral, but three days later, his wife Sunder Bai and a villager Sunder Singh along with some relatives went to the police claiming that his aunt had killed the 45-year-old. 

However, taking law in their hands, they did not wait for the police investigation.

On Saturday night, the family approached the village council. Some villagers then stormed into the woman’s house and pulled her out. On the council's order, the woman's head was shaved and her face was blackened with coal dust, she was stripped off her clothes and taken around the village on a donkey.

"Initially, she was even afraid to talk about what had happened to her but after the police and officials from the social welfare department arrived, she was able to feel a little safe and narrate her ordeal," the police said.
