CoimbatoreThousands of passengers were stranded at the Coimbatore railway junction as several trains were delayed for about two hours due to a technical glitch at the railway station here on Friday.

Trains came to a grinding halt after a shunting engine’s pantograph got entangled with the overhead electric cable around 2pm on Friday. The electric supply went off on a 14.5 km stretch from Irugur to Podanur, which halted all the trains on this stretch.

The Shalimar-Nagercoil Gurudev Express, Kovai Express, Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express, Bangalore- Ernakulam Intercity Express, Mettupalayam-Coimbatore passenger and Kannur Coimbatore fast passenger train were delayed due to the snag.

A team of technicians rectified the snag after which trains began to run after a delay of two hours. “This is for the first time in the recent years that such a technical snag has occurred in Coimbatore,” said a railway official.
