Ministers get busy after Jayalalithaa’s instructions

Based on her direction monsoon repair works have been intensified

Chennai: Some of the ministers who met AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa at her residence on Wednesday were early at the secretariat on Thursday, reviewing their departments while others left for their native districts to oversee flood relief.
 
Local administration minister S.P. Velumani, who was bound for Coimbatore to oversee flood relief there, said, “Amma has said we must speed up flood relief work and ensure that public grievances are attended to. Based on her direction monsoon repair works have been intensified.”
 
Handloom minister Gokula Indira fixed December 31 as the deadline for officials to distribute free Pongal saris and dhotis. She instructed them to prepare the stock required for this measure and speed up the free Pongal gift schemes well in advance. The minister also told the local AIADMK functionaries in her constituency to co-ordinate with the public and corporation officials to speed up monsoon-related works in her Anna Nagar constituency.
 
Animal husbandry minister T.K.M. Chinniah also conducted a review meeting and instructed officials to speed up the scheme for the distribution of free milch cows and goats. Both Chinniah and forest minister M. S.M. Anandan instructed the officials to make use of the monsoon by planting fodder plants in vacant areas and tree saplings in protected forest areas.
