Chennai: TN cardre IPS officer Sandeep Mittal, who was in the dock three years ago for the Paramakudi incident in which seven persons were killed in police firing, has now got into yet another controversy after a junior colleague and his wife held him responsible for their suicide.

Sankalp Anand, son of a Bollywood lyricist, working at National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS) where Sandeep Mittal is the DIG (administration), committed suicide along with his wife by jumping before a train in Mathura, UP, on Wednesday. In his suicide note, he blamed Mittal and another IPS officer, Kamalendra Prasad (UP cadre), besides a few others.

Mittal, who was deputy IG in charge of the area when the police opened fire during the violence in Pramakudi in Ramanathapuram district on September 12, 2011, was later transferred and posted in armed reserve in Tiruchy but he opted for Central deputation and joined as DIG (administration) in NICFS, in 2012.

Sankalp, in his 11-page suicide note, hinted at '250 crore construction scheme rip-off at NICFS and a job scam. Though the note does not elaborate the modus operandi of the beneficiaries, it gives names and phone numbers of 11 persons who could tell more. The note also gives instances of Sankalp, working as drawing and disbursing officer, handing over huge amounts to Mittal. Mittal also gave money to Sankalp.

“Till January last week, I wasn’t aware of the fact that the entire construction plot was bogus. During the same time, I came to know about a job racket in which the same people were involved,” he said in his note.

He says that the construction company executives, when they came to know that they had paid advance for a project that did not exist, started threatening him. “When I told the director and the DIG about it, they said it was my problem and that I will have to solve it myself,” he said in the note. After that he started receiving threatening calls. He further said he reached a stage where he couldn’t bear it any more.
