Hudhud: Cyclone death toll now 37
2.48 lakh people in 320 villages were affected

Hyderabad: The number of deaths caused by Cyclone Hudhud rose to 37 on Wednesday with more deaths being reported from remote villages in Vizianagaram district.
AP additional DG (law and order) R.P. Thakur, said, “As per police records, the cyclone caused deaths reached 37 with one death in Srikakulam, 11 deaths in Vizainagaram, nine deaths in Visakhapatnam city and 16 deaths in rural Visakhapatnam.”
A couple, J. Chinnaiah and J. Chinnamma, both residents of Thanglam in Pachipenta mandal of Vizainagaram district, drowned in the flood water while they were cultivating their field on October 12. Their deaths were reported on Wednesday.
K. Gunamma, 40, a resident of Guddepuvalasa in Bogapuram mandal was killed when her thatched hut collapsed.
S. Ramesh from Jagaram in Jamimandal, P. Veerapratab Babu, 24, from Dannanpet in Nellimerla mandal, and K. Runai from Manuguda in Kurupam mandal, died due to reasons like trees falling, or from being washed away in floods.
According to the AP disaster management cell, 2.48 lakh people in 320 villages were affected. Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam districts have the highest number of villages affected. Officials are running 223 relief camps in four districts including East Godavari in which 1.35 lakh people are given food and other relief material.
The department claimed that so far 146 persons were rescued and their lives were saved by various teams including police, NDRF and army.
Officials said around 8301 electric poles and transformers were damaged and 8742 animal deaths were reported. The statistics revealed that 2250 km length of roads were damaged in the state . Around 4.5 lakh acres of crop was lost due to flooding.
