PS4 owners are not too thrilled

Owners expect better because they chose to buy the more ‘powerful’ console

AC: Unity
Ubisoft was at the centre of controversy yet again, as senior producer Vincent Pontbriand said in an interview that both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of AC: Unity will be locked at 900p and 30 fps. One of the reasons given was that they wanted to “avoid all the debates and stuff”. This led to a massive #PS4NoParity campaign by PlayStation 4 owners, who claimed that Ubisoft was forcing parity, not fully utilising the PS4’s hardware advantages over the Xbox One.

Bioware also took shots at Ubisoft for their public statement “Confirmed: #DAI resolution is 1080p on PS4, and 900p on Xbox One. We maximised the current potential of each platform.” This resulted in many canceled pre-orders for AC: Unity.

Ubisoft later refuted those claims they said that the issue at hand is with the CPUs of both consoles, as Unity can show thousands of NPCs on screen. Although they have explained why both versions are locked at 900/30, many refuse to trust them considering both their previous games — Watch Dogs and Black Flag ran at a higher resolution on the PS4.
Other developers have also fueled this war as most games that have come out in the past year run or look better on the PS4. While Destiny and Diablo III are exceptions, in both of these cases Microsoft engineers had to work directly with the development studio to make sure that the Xbox One version matches the PS4 version.

The general consensus among PlayStation 4 owners is that they expect better because they chose to buy the more ‘powerful’ console. According to them no matter how well a game is running on Xbox One, the PS4 should always be better. While Xbox One owners claim that these do not affect the quality of the game.

Due to this difference in opinions, it’s unfair to take sides. It’s not hard to understand why PS4 owners demand the best possible version, while Microsoft obviously wants both versions to be the same because it affects public perception, which directly affects software and hardware sales.
