Bengaluru: Streets were flooded and traffic was blocked in several areas as the city witnessed a heavy rainfall on Wednesday night. As many as 15 trees got uprooted in the heavy rain that lashed the city for over two hours. The city received 42mm of rain.

Richmond Circle, Shantinagar, Double Road, RT Nagar, Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Kammanahalli, Lingarajpuram, Banaswadi, Girinagar, Bapujinagar, Banerghatta Road, Yehlanka, Mahalaxmi Layout and Arekere Layouts were the worst hit.

Once again, the Gali Anjaneya Temple on Mysore Road was flooded and houses around the area saw waterlogging. Two massive trees collapsed in Jayanagar 4th Block, while tree fall was also reported from T Block, BTM 16th Main Road, Isro Layout and Srinagar. A car was damaged by a tree branch in Indiranagar. Massive traffic jams were reported from Hebbal and Old Airport Road. Mayor Shanthakumari too was stuck in the traffic. Many houses were flooded especially in Thenehalli near Kamanahalli and Pushpanjali Theatre.

Tree falls on two cars, traffic hit

Heavy rains, accompanied by gusty winds, on Wednesday evening caused traffic snarls in the Indiranagar traffic police station limits after a tree fell on two cars parked on 100 Feet Road and injured a woman.

According to the Indiranagar traffic police, around 5.30 pm a huge tree near BMC junction on 110 Feet Road got uprooted and fell on the cars. Soon the traffic came to a halt on the road and as it was rush hour, it also affected traffic on Old Airport Road, CMH Road, 100ft road, Double Road up to Domlur flyover. “The traffic movement was disrupted for nearly 40 minutes after which it was cleared. The police had diverted the traffic towards 2nd Main and also asked the commuters to take an alternate route via MG road. A woman, who was near the spot where the tree fell, sustained minor leg injury,” said Indiranagar traffic officer. Meanwhile, BBMP officials rushed to the spot cleared the tree in half an hour’s time, which helped in easing the traffic gridlock.
