Hyderabad: On a sarcastic note Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said the TRS government will turn into “merciless land thieves” as far as encroached prime government land is concerned.
The government will forcibly reclaim land in and around the city. The Chief Minister has decided to come down heavily on those occupying government lands worth thousands of crores in Hyderabad and neighbouring Ranga Reddy and other districts. Sources said the Chief Minister asked revenue, GHMC and other departments to identify encroachers and initiate measures to evict them, both forcibly and legally.

“Just four pieces of government land in Hyderabad will get Rs 20,000 crore. Huge tracts of government lands are encroached. We will evict them at any cost and use the land for better purposes including new housing colonies for poor and welfare schemes. Our housing scheme will cost '10,000 crore,” the CM said at a function in the city.

Mr Rao said thanks to the intensive household survey the government has enough data to act upon. “The survey has identified who is dora (honest) and donga (thief),” he added.

Though he did not name any individual or organisation, sources said the revenue department has identified some bigwigs and passed on the information.
