London: A new survey has revealed top ten rules of friendship and that best friends are 100 percent honest - but can lie for their mates at the drop of a hat.

According to the study of 2,000 adults by the social platform eventbuddie.com, the very best friends are able to do everything from being a shoulder to cry on and being available in dire straits to memorizing your favourite tipple and throwing great parties, the Daily Star reported.

Iconic X Factor voiceover Peter Dickson, a founder at eventbuddie.com, said that they found that many adults struggle to find like-minded people to attend certain social functions with - despite having a partner and a large circle of friends.

The golden rules of friendship are:

1.A great friend will be a good listener

2.Give you an honest opinion

3.Silences are never awkward with them

4.They provide a shoulder to cry on

5.They have shared interests with you

6.You have the ability to not see each other for long periods but nothing changes

7.They trust your opinion/listens to you

8.They keep your secrets/business private

9.They would change their plans to help you out

10.They can tell when you are feeling down in the dumps, even when you haven't said anything
