Visakhapatnam: Frustrated with the years of deliberating delay in ban of polythene and plastic in Vizag city, hundreds of students of various colleges under the banner of India Youth for Society on Thursday took out two massive rallies raising slogans ‘Say no to plastic’ for clean Vizag.

Students of Mrs AVN College, BVK College and IYFS volunteers took out a rally from AVN College to Jagadamba Junction via Purna Market and Super Bazaar while NSS volunteers of BVK College took out another procession from RTC Complex to Jagadamba Junction via LIC Circle, Daba Gardens, Saraswathi Park, Chitralaya theatre to create awareness about the hazards of indiscriminate usage of plastic.

The students requested the officials of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Board and forest departments to ban polythene bags and glasses at all the parks and crowded places.

Meanwhile, commissioner of GVMC, M. Satyanarayana said they are chalking out plans to ban the plastic. He said that they will form squads to conduct raids on shops using plastic bags.
