HE BEGAN LEARNING YOGA AT 50!

He began learning yoga at 50 and now at  81 he can still perform some of the most intricate of yogasanas. Meet Yogarathna B. N. Muddukrishna of K. R. Nagar who stunned both the audience  and health minister,  U. T. Khader on Wednesday by his flexibility.

Invited to perform yoga to launch Yoga Prabhoda, a forum to teach yoga to students of 140 BCM  hostels in Mysore and Mandya as part of the Dasara celebrations, he effortlessly twisted  his body into the Omkaarasana, Kaalabhyravaasana and Oordvaasana, leaving the audience gasping.  While the organizers offered Rs 1 lakh as an open challenge to anyone who could match his skill no young contender came forward.

Having learnt yoga in 1994 to overcome a health problem, Mr Muddkrishna began participating in yoga contests at 67 and continued till he was 75. And now hopes to be able to perform on a public platform even if he turns 100.
