Hyderabad: A police constable was injured following a Tollywood style chase to catch a suspected chain-snatcher at Gayathrinagar in Meerpet on Tuesday morning.

A two-member police team from Meerpet police station was following the young offender’s motorbike on a police bike to nab him, but ended up getting involved in a road mishap.

A motorcycle coming from the opposite direction rammed into the cops’ bike causing one of them to fall on the road.

The injured constable, S. Narender was shifted to hospital, while a search is on for the offending driver.

Narender and his fellow officer Srikant were patrolling in the chain-snatching prone areas at Gayathrinagar, when they spotted a usual offender, a minor, on a bike along with another youth.

“The youngsters had handkerchiefs covering their faces, and were roaming in the area. The two officers noticed them and tried to catch them. The duo sped away and the cops started following them.

A biker from the opposite side dashed into the cops’ bike,” said a police official from Meerpet police station.

The offending biker and the suspected snatchers fled.

The police has started an inquiry to find out if the mishap was preplanned. Sources said that the chain snatcher is a very good rider and used to perform stunts on his bike.

The chain-snatcher, who lives in Meerpet, was under the police scanner after few chain-snatchings that occurred in the area.

Meerpet police inspector P. Shankar Yadav said that the condition of the injured constable is stable and the police would trace the suspect, who gave the slip to the police.
