Chennai: A city court in Chennai adjourned hearing on a petition praying for restraining of an upcoming Kollywood film starring a popular actor Vijay. Kaththi, touted as an action romantic movie, is directed by A. R. Murugadoss and features Vijay and Samantha in the lead roles.

A petition filed by N. Gopi alias Nainar, 45, Tiruvallur district, submitted that he had penned several short stories highlighting the cause of Dalits and exploitation of people. According to him, “I met ace film director Murugadoss with the help of an acquaintance, Jagan of Kattupakkam and narrated one of my stories, ‘Mootha Kudi’ to A.R. Murugadoss on several occasions.”  On the suggestion of the director, Gopi made several changes in the story and presented the script to him. The director wished to make a film based on the story and informed him that he would be rewarded suitably.

Meanwhile, he was shocked to notice that Murugadoss was making the film and was scheduled to release it shortly. Gopi said that making a film based on his story amounts to criminal breach of trust. Hence, he sought a permanent injunction, restraining the release of the film in any manner.

In his reply, Murugadoss submitted that he was not aware of the petitioner and had never discussed any story with him. There was no proof to establish that the film being made was based on the story “Mootha Kudi”. Seeking dismissal of the petition, Murgadoss stated that if the injunction was granted, he would face serious hardship as the movie with a leading Kollywood star involves several hundred crore rupees.

When the petition came up for hearing, the XIII City Civil court adjourned the matter to September 16. It may be noted that students’ outfits staged demonstrations. opposing the release of the film recently.
