Boiler blast kills one and four others injured in Tiruvallur

The unit belonging to Malladi Specialists was making chemicals for pharmaceutical products

Chennai:One worker was killed and four others injured when a boiler burst at a manufacturing unit in Kakalur industrial area in Tiruvallur on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Rajendran, 35. According to the Tiruvalluvar taluk inspector Gokul Raj, the unit belonging to Malladi Specialists was making chemicals for pharmaceutical products. 
 
The blast took place around 10.20 am probably because the workers failed to lock the boiler properly after filling it with raw material and the chemicals blew up under high pressure. The manager and a few other staff were questioned but no arrest was made till late Sunday. Fire and rescue service teams rushed to the blast site by when Rajendran had succumbed to burn injuries.
