Mumbai: Abhishek Bachchan had told the press that in the early stages of making Happy New Year, Shah Rukh Khan had voiced the sentiment that he wanted this to be the biggest movie ever.

True to his words, on Thursday evening, SRK redefined the way trailers are launched in Bollywood, helming the biggest and perhaps, the grandest event ever to unveil this Diwali heist caper.

Keeping in mind HNY’s “Indiawale” theme, the team had arranged for a desi spread to be catered, including piping hot jalebis, tea served in clay pots and more.

Attendees could take pictures in front of a croma screen and get a print of their image juxtaposed in the Happy New Year poster.

SRK confessed that he had spent the previous night at the venue, checking every detail.

At the event, which was co-hosted by Boman Irani, SRK said, “We have three elements in the film: Dance, music and glamour.”

This followed a live dance show by a young group, Vishal-Shekar’s live performance and a classy fashion show by Manish Malhotra.

The cast walked the ramp in specially designed costumes.

The greatest cheers of the evening were reserved for Jackie Shroff.

Among the lines that got the most hoots of approval from the audience was his: “Ek doosre pe chadne ka nahi!” delivered in inimitable Jackie style.

The team is now set for a world tour as part of the film’s promotions.
