Hyderabad: The power crisis of AP is set to change with Krishnapatnam plant coming into play full throttle by adding 800 mw in a couple of months. Still supplying 24x7 power is a long shot, will not happen anytime soon given the generation figures, feel the experts.

While generation in Andhra Pradesh is only 55-60 mu currently, Krishnapatnam alone will not be able to meet the deficiency as power generated from this plant will be  shared with Telangana as well. Although the of sharing has become disputed with the state government’s plan, supplying of power 24x7 can only happen at a hugely escalated cost as additional purchases.

Already, the cost of transmission of power has increased and will be reflected in the next ARRs (Annual Revenue Requirement) estimates to be filed by the discoms. This is because the transmission lines have become inter-state transmission lines imposing additional cost.

Additional power purchase will mean an escalation of the cost of power by a large extent.

“We had earlier been expecting a 10 to 15 per cent increase due to various factors, but now given the state government’s plan of supplying power round-the-clock the cost of power will see an escalation of around 30 percent,” said an official.
