Department reshuffle on anvil for Andhra Pradesh

Commercial taxes, excise and stamps, registrations department to come under Finance department's control

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh government is now planning to restructure  its departments in Secretariat.

After bifurcation, the number  of  IAS officers has reduced but the  number of departments have remained the  same.

AP chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao held a meeting with secretaries and discussed the existing administrative department structure of the Secretariat as also restructuring of these  departments.

It was suggested that major revenue earning departments like commercial taxes, excise and stamps and registrations be brought  under the administrative control of finance department. 

It was also suggested that a  committee of  principal secretaries of general administration, revenue and finance departments be formed to study its feasibility and the recommendations of this committee  be discussed at the next meeting.

The chief secretary will hold a meeting  shortly with special chief secretary (planning) and selected department secretaries like medical and health, irrigation, finance and industries to review the progress regarding identification and preparation of the proposals.

The chief secretary also asked the law secretary to initiate steps  to set up a university like Nalsar  Law University in the state and  the principal secretary of higher education to set up an institute  like  Indian School of Business in AP.
