Hyderabad: The AP and Telangana states continue to reel under power deficit with generation from the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) and Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (VTPS) remaining low on account of coal shortage and technical snags.

One unit of the VTPS, however, was revived, according to officials, but the deficit is still around 1,000 MW in the region.

The units have depleted stocks of roughly two days now, but the boiler tube burnout and other technical snags are yet to be rectified at all the units.

Meanwhile, emergency power cuts were implemented several times in the last two days.

The situation has been partially brought under control with about 1,300 MW of power from the NTPC-run Simhadri and Ramagundam being pumped into the two states.

The NTPC-run plants are running on full load and are partially making up for the loss.

On Wednesday, one unit of the VTPS was revived and the plant generated 32 MU against its total capacity of 40 MU, while the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station generated 12 MU against its total capacity of 23 MU.

Rayalaseema Unit 3 and 4 totals 420 MW and continue to remain under outage.

The generation from AP Genco was around 55 mu while that from Telangana Genco was around 31 mu on Wednesday.

Moreover, nine units of hydel power plants are currently unavailable and the hydel generation is as low as 2 MU in AP and no generation in Telangana.
