Mumbai: Karan Johar, known for the close equations he maintains with every possible clique in B-town, brought in his 42nd birthday in style with a big party on Saturday night.

KJo’s b’day bashes have always been the must-attend events, although this time round, the buzz was more about the friends who didn’t make it to the party, than the ones who did.

For instance, the absence of Karan’s closest friend, Shah Rukh Khan, was certainly noted, and remarked upon. The other big absentee of the night turned out to be Kajol.

A source who was involved in planning the party claims that Kajol decided to stay away as she didn’t want to run into fellow invitee and cousin, the newly-wed Rani Mukerji Chopra, with whom she reportedly shares cold vibes. “Yes, Kajol’s absence was surprising. Perhaps she didn’t want to run into Rani. But Rani herself backed out of the bash in the last minute, citing some personal commitments. So neither of the cousins made it,” our source said.

Karan’s other close friend Salman Khan too did not attend the party. However, the presence of other friends and colleagues like Aamir Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Aalia Bhatt and Vidya Balan made it special for him.
