CPM leadership now target of jokes on social media
The ‘Sandhesham’ clipping mocking at the CPM for the party’s failure
Kozhikode: The CPM debacle in the elections has spurred sharing of jokes among the comrades on the social media about the leadership, unlike in the past when partymen seriously discussed the reasons for the defeat in groups and at public meetings. The most circulated clippings, especially on Whatsapp which is more private, are from Sathyan Anthikad’s hit movie ‘Sandhesham.’ There are also clips that take pot shots at M.V. Jayarajan for his reported comments that the CIA was behind the poor show of the CPM.
The ‘Sandhesham’ clipping mocking at the CPM ways of analysing the reasons for the party’s failure has been circulated among almost all comrades in Kozhikode. In that clipping, Sankaradi, who was acting as the ‘think tank’ of the leftist party, uses polysyllabic Malayalam words and political jargon in his speeches and a common worker stands up and asks why the party could not tell them in simple words why they lost the elections. This hilarious scene captures the mood of the worker and sends out a strong message that the young cadre are no more ready to accept the explanations of the leadership.
In another clipping, US President Barak Obama is seen making a phone call in Malayalam and asking someone, “Forget about the economic crisis and North Korea, did you fix a poster against the CPM on the banyan tree at Chanthakavala in Punnaykamkuzhi panchayat?” The picture also has a caption quoting Mr Jayarajan’s words that the CIA was behind the failure of the party in the elections.
A cartoon in which actor and LDF independent MP Innocent offers a lotus to Mr Modi in feminine attire, reminiscent of a famous scene in the movie ‘Ramji Rao Speaking,’ and both Mr Pinarayi Vijayan and Mr Panniyan Raveendran standing behind without their dhothis, is also popular among the party cadre.
“Every one of us is sharing similar messages ridiculing the party and the leadership. The cadre are generally unhappy about the party performance and its policies. Nobody feels guilty of making fun of the party. Moreover, many of our cadre are shifting their political loyalties,” a senior DYFI worker told Deccan Chronicle.
