Hyderabad: The city experienced the hottest day of the season with the maximum temperature touching 42.30C. Rentichintala and Ongole recorded 46.80C and 46.20C respectively. Many districts in Telangana, Rayalaseema and Seemandhra recorded an average of 42.0C.

The highest temperature ever recorded in the city is 45.50C, in 1960. Last year, the mercury touched 43.90 C in Hyderabad.

Met officials said that a well-defined low-pressure area is to be blamed for this increase in temperature. Under its influence, it rained at isolated places in Coastal AP and Rayalaseema. Telangana, however, had mainly dry weather.

“The temperatures are expected to go up further by the end of this month,” said M. Narsimha Rao, assistant controller, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.
A heat wave warning has been issued for the next 48 hours in Adilabad, Nalgonda and Karimnagar of Telangana, Chittoor of Rayalaseema and Krishna and Guntur of Coastal AP.
