Chennai: A trend setter in his own way, Sundar. C has always been making films that are loved by the masses. His out-of-the-box humour has taken him places, his last two films, Kalakalappu and Theeya Vela Seiyanum Kumaru included, which set the cash registers ringing.

Now, the director is all set for the release of his next multi-starrer, Aranmanai. “The script is in a genre that I have never attempted before,” says Sundar C, excitedly. “And I am happy about the way the movie has shaped up. If Aranmanai satisfies the audience out there, I am sure I will come up with a Part 2 to it. It’s a complete horror film, with elements of humour in it,” he says.

As for working with three leading actresses of K’town, more than five caravans stood outside the aranmanai, the palace in which they shot more than 70 per cent of the film, “but none of the actresses took rest inside their caravans, preferring to sit on the floor in the palace. We were more like family, and their dedication could be seen on screen,” Sundar C says. “The film does not have a hero-heroine formula, nor it does it hinge only with one person. Every actor in the film, Lakshmi Rai, Hansika, Vinay Rai and Andrea, have equal importance, and the palace in itself is the main character in the film.”

He does mention that Hansika’s role is the USP of the film. “I don’t want to break the suspense. I want people to watch and enjoy and appreciate her performance as an actor.” Sundar. C and his team shot the entire film in a palace in Hyderabad.  “We spent more than '2 crores renovating an old palace there. The film has come out well visually too and is technically stronger than my previous ones,” he says.

Santhanam, who played the lead role in Vallavanukum Pullum Ayutham, have played an important role in the film. Sundar. C is also sharing screen space in the film.
