Berhampore: A yellow rose on arrival, tents to provide shade from the searing heat and cold water were being provided to voters at a model polling station in Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.

The Maharani Kashiswari Girls' High School polling station was decorated and election officials were greeting voters with yellow roses. Children accompanying parents were given toys, balloons and toffees.

"We didn't know that it is a model polling booth and so many facilities will be available. We are pleasantly surprised with the welcome," said 32-year-old Tapan Das who came to vote with his family in the last phase of the elections in the state.

EC officials said such model polling booths were set up all over the state to encourage people to vote in a hassle-free manner.
