Mumbai: For the ongoing election campaign, many followers of Narendra Modi’s twitter account from Mumbai have received a tweet which urges them to exercise their rights to vote and also bring in their friends to the polling booth.

If you are from Mumbai, or if your Twitter profile shows Mumbai as your residing place, then you are likely to get this tweet on his behalf. Since Mumbai goes to poll on April 24, 2014, most of Modi's followers from the city have received this message, personalised in their name.

Those living in Mumbai and not following the prime ministerial contestant on Twitter can relax as he has not spammed you!

After Mumbai, the next states witnessing the voting phase may also get to see his followers being spammed with a similar personalised message. While we consider this message more of an advertisement, many have been calling it a ‘brainwashing spam’.

The next batch of Twitter accounts that might receive these messages could be in the following states: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Daman & Diu.

The tweet states the following:

“Dear XYZ,

24th April is Mumbai’s tryst with democracy! It’s your chance to vote for the nation’s future.  I urge you to show the way by casting your vote & take fellow Mumbaikars to the polling booth. Am sure Mumbai will script history by turning out in large numbers & electing a Government that puts India first!

 – Signed – Narendra Modi.”

Narendra Modi surprised his followers during Holi too. The Holi tweet read:

”Dear XYZ,

Happy Holi! May this festival add colours of joy, peace and prosperity in our lives.

 – Signed – Narendra Modi.”
