THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM is confident of winning at least 14 Lok Sabha seats and putting up a strong fight in the rest of the constituencies in the state.
The secretariat arrived at this conclusion after analysing the detailed reports submitted by the respective district committees on the voting pattern and calculations at the local level.

The CPM leadership believes  that the LDF would win  in constituencies where the front had a good organizational network.
The party felt that there was a general trend against the UPA at the centre and the UDF across the state.
The constituencies which had well oiled organizational machinery succeeded in converting this disenchantment into votes. But even in other constituencies, the CPM leadership believes  that the UDF’s victory margin would be low.

The secretariat felt that Mr V.S. Achuthanandan's decision to campaign actively had a huge impact on the elections.
Sources said the CPM expected victory in Thiruvananthapuram, Attingal, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Chalakudy,Thrissur, Alathur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Vadakara, Kannur and Kasargod. The UDF would retain Ernakulam, Mavelikkara, Kottayam, Malappuram, Ponnani and Wayand.

But a section of political observers says the calculations of the district committees based on a decade old loyalty of voters in their respective constituencies could go wrong in many seats. They say while  the LDF could be sure of Attingal, Kasargod, Alathur, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and to some extent Kozhikode, the fight  will  be neck and neck in Vadakara, Idukki, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta.
