Congress leaders not keen to contest polls

Few sitting MLAs are in no mood to contest polls

Hyderabad: The Congress high command is having problems with its senior party leaders from Andhra Pradesh. The party’s sitting MLAs, who have been allotted tickets, are unwilling to contest fearing losing the election. 
 
Former minister Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy announced on Thursday that he did not want to contest from the Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituency. Mr Krishna Reddy said he has informed the national and state level committees about this. 
 
Mr Krishna Reddy is the sitting MLA from Narasaraopet segment and was allotted the Lok Sabha seat. His son Kasu Mahesh Reddy was allotted the Narasaraopet Assembly seat. Mr Mahesh Reddy had announced on Wednesday that he would not contest the elections. 
 
However, Mr Krishna Reddy said he would reconcile his decision if there was no other option left, and this was informed to the high command. 
Congress MLA from Mangalagiri segment K. Kamala has also announced that she will not contest the elections. Another Congress MLA from Vijayawada West, Velampalli Srinivas, after being given the party ticket, joined the BJP. 
Several Congress MLAs in the East Godavari district are not showing any interest in contesting the elections fearing defeat.
