Hassan: Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda is taking nothing for granted these Lok Sabha polls as he has had his share of ups and downs in Hassan parliamentary constituency over the years. He is counting on his contribution to improving irrigation, rail connectivity and education in the region to help him win him the victory he is looking for. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he vowed not to rest till his party was back at the state’s helm of affairs. Excerpts:

Is this your last election?
Why should it  be my last election? I have fought 15 elections so far in my political career and will not rest until Janata Dal Secular is back in power in the state.

What about the prospects of the JDS these elections?
We are contesting in 25 constituencies in the state and are not going to win  in all of them.

You are confident of the Third Front coming back to power at the Centre but it has never given a stable government.
It was the Congress which pulled down my government in 1996 after extending support to it. Blame the Congress.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has questioned the source of your family’s wealth.
Forget Siddaramaiah. I am not bothered about what he says.

When will your autobiography be released?
I am busy with campaigning and my daughter has taken the responsibility of my autobiography. I think it will be released in another two or three months. My autobiography willl tell you how a farmer rose to be a Chief Minister and then led the country as  Prime Minister. Was there any communal clash in the country and how I maintained relationships with neighbouring countries. All this will be revealed.
