Kozhikode: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan visited CPM Panoor area committee member P.K. Kunhananthan, who was convicted in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case, at the central prison in Kannur on Saturday. He was accompanied by CPM leaders James Mathew MLA, E.P. Jayarajan, P.K. Sreemathy and T.V. Rajesh. Their interaction  at the deputy jailor’s office in the prison lasted only for ten minutes and the leaders evaded the media.
Mr Pinarayi avoided meeting  Mr  K.C. Ramachandran, Kunnummakkara local committee secretary,  who was  found guilty by the CPM committee in the murder.  It may be recalled that the special additional district and sessions court (Marad cases) had found 12 persons, including three partymen, guilty  in the murder.

But the party inquiry committee found only Ramachandran guilty. As the meeting was kept a secret, by the time media persons reached the central prison, the CPM leaders had left. Some time ago,  CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, DYFI leader A.N. Shamseer, district secretary P. Jayarajan, state committee member M.V. Jayarajan,  Mr James Mathew and former parliament member Sathi Devi also had visited Kunhananthan.

There has been a flow of partymen into the prison to visit  the murder convicts. In February alone, 350 persons visited the convicts, according to prison documents. In the first week of March, 108 persons visited them.
