Those who were worried about reports that said WhatsApp, the standalone messaging app that Facebook purchased last month for $16 billion, will collect more user data and share it with Facebook, can heave a sigh of relief. Accordring to an official blog post, the company, which will operate autonomously under Facebook’s ownership, is not in the business of data collecting. Jan Koum, WhatsApp’s CEO, wrote “If partnering with Facebook meant that we had to change our values, we wouldn’t have done it,” adding, “Make no mistake: our future partnership with Facebook will not compromise the vision that brought us to this point.”
