IIA submits design for Kochi Metro stations
An expert committee of the KMRL will study the “final” designs and take an appropriate decision soon
The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) has submitted designs for 14 of the proposed 22 metro stations that would be set up in the first phase of the Kochi metro project from Aluva to Pettah.
“The designs reflect the socio-cultural aspects of Kerala. As per the plan, the stations will have features of houseboats, coconut palm leaves, Kasavu Saree, Kathakali and the like which are unique identities of the state,” metro sources said.
There will be also descriptions about the designs placed in the stations so as to give information to tourists.
“For instance, one of the stations is inspired by ‘Kettuvallam’, a house boat widely used in the backwaters of the state. The station will have descriptions placed on how a kettuvallam is being made and also a small traditional kettuvallam model exhibited there,” they said.
An expert committee of the KMRL will study the “final” designs and take an appropriate decision soon.
“Some corrections like the position of ticket counters were carried out and now designed in a way so as to tap the maximum natural light and wind,” the sources said.
Meanwhile, the KMRL has invited tenders for design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Platform Screen Gates (PSG).
