Lucknow: The Congress is reportedly considering fielding Karuna Shukla, niece of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, from Lucknow if BJP chief Rajnath Singh decides to contest form the state capital. Ms Shukla recently quit the BJP and joined the Congress.

Party strategists feel that she would be an apt candidate to take on Mr Singh in Lucknow and claim Mr Vajpayee’s legacy. “She will cause considerable embarrassment to the BJP president when she tells the people in Lucknow how the BJP has become ‘culturally and politically corrupt’ and how the present leadership has chosen to ignore all that Mr Vajpayee stood for.
