Actor Balakrishna was a big hit in Dubai at a recent event, stunning the audience with a mix of dance and music. This is, in fact, his first public performance ever in a career spanning decades.

The ‘Chief Guest’ also managed to raise over $40,000 from the nearly 3,000 guests at the event for his Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital and Research Institute at Hyderabad.
Rasamayi, a 28-year-old Telugu organisation in Dubai organised the event titled, An evening with the legend.

This is actually the first time the actor, known for this rather ‘good mood’ at weddings and private ceremonies, has danced at a public event. The last time he performed on stage was right here in  Hyderabad, for the 75 years of Telugu cinema celebrations, nearly five years ago.

“The crowd was expecting just a speech from him. But then everyone  started screaming in surprise after he launched himself into an all-out dance number. Then, they just went crazy after he started singing too. Most of his fans have never seen him perform live,” said director Boyapati Srinu, currently working with Balakrishna in the upcoming movie, Legend.

The actor danced to his famous number, Simhamanti Chinnode from the movie, Simha.
