Army nod must for buildings

Hyderabad: SCB president brigadier Sunil Bodhe said as there are a large number of military installations in the Cantonment area, the defence ministry had issued some security guidelines after the 26/11 attacks that had to be followed by the Army for allowing buildings near defense properties.
The public will have to obtain a “security clearance” from the Local Military Authority (LMA) for constructing houses within 500 metres of a defense installation inside Secunderabad Cantonment Board limits, and this rule will be imposed after getting the nod from the defense principal at Pune.
At present, though the rule is in place all over the state, it is not strictly implemented. The defe-nce ministry wants it to be implemented in Secunderabad Canto-nment.
The state government has included this clause in its building rules issued in GO No. 168.
The elected ward members, meanwhile, are not happy with the 500 meters security clearance clause.
“Why is there a need to implement the security clearance rule in the Cantonment? All building plans in the Cantonment area are approved by the Board that comprises officers from the Army, the Secunderabad Canton-ment Board and elected ward members. It is useful in the GHMC area because there are no Army officers in the GHMC Town Planning wing.
