Army man arrested for sexually assaulting 14-month-old girl

Bangalore: An army man was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-month-old girl at the Para Regimental Centre here.

"The army official was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting the 14-month-old girl at the Para Regimental Centre," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sandeep Patil told PTI.

Dharamveer, who is in his 30s, sexually assaulted the girl at her house a couple of days back when she was left under his care by her parents while they were away.

On the parents' return, they found her with injuries in her private parts and rushed her to a hospital. She has been discharged and the medical report is awaited, police said.

"The victim is daughter of another army official, who also stays at the Para Regimental Centre," he added.

New Delhi: A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her teenager neighbour in South Delhi's Amar Colony area here Monday evening, police said.

The 17-year-old accused has been arrested after a case of rape was registered against him.

The juvenile took the girl to the rooftop of a building on some pretext and raped her, a police official said.

"Threatening her of dire consequences, he told her not to reveal the incident to anyone. The girl, however, narrated her ordeal to her family, who then approached the police," the official said.

The police took the victim to a nearby hospital where rape was established in her medical examination. Further investigations in the case are on, police said.

Indore: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) against whom a local court had issued an arrest warrant for allegely indulging in an obscene act with a minor schoolgirl while probing a case, surrendered before the judge on Monday.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramkishore Shivhare surrendered before Special Judge R.P. Sharma, after which he was sent to jail, prosecution advocate, Vishal Anand Shrivastava told reporters.

Shivhare was probing a case in which an unidentified man had shot at the minor girl's mother on September 1, 2011.

The ASI was posted in Chandan Nagar police station at that time and while probing the incident involving the 16-year-old girl's mother, he along with a tanker driver friend named Vijay Sharma took the daughter away on the pretext of questioning her on September 3, 2011.

Later, they allegedly indulged in an obscene act with her in the room of an acquaintance, the advocate said.

They also shot a video clip and threatened her that if she revealed the matter to anyone, they would kill her.

After a police complaint, a case under Sections 342, 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against them. Subsequently, they were found guilty in the matter on October 9, 2013. Shivhare had been absconding since then.

New Delhi: In a new twist to the rape case reported in East Delhi on Sunday, police probe has found that the accused and his friend were at some other place at the time of the alleged incident.

Police had detained the two youth after the woman had alleged that one of them raped her in a moving car while the other along with his friend was present at the time of assault.

However, during investigations, their mobile phone location at the time specified by the victim were found to be somewhere else.

Police also found discrepancies in the victim's statement. A police official said that they are contemplating taking legal course to withdraw the FIR in the case.

The 28-year-old married woman had on Sunday alleged that she was raped by her friend in a moving car in East Delhi. The incident had come to the light when locals found the woman crying near Anand Vihar Bus Terminal here last evening.

"She was taken to local police station where she claimed that her friend raped her in a moving car in front of two other men. As per the woman, they also thrashed her when she tried to resist," a police official had said.

The victim had told the police that she had come to meet her friend as he promised her of a job in some factory.

Dehradun: Two men were sentenced to death by a local court on Monday for gang raping and murdering an elderly woman in a village on the outskirts of the city over a year ago.

Mehtab and Sushil alias Bhoora were given death sentence by Additional District and Sessions Judge AmitSirohi after they pleaded guilty of gang raping and killing the 60-year-old woman in the forests of Sabawala village in Sahaspur area of Dehradun district in December, 2012, Public Prosecutor J.K. Joshi said.

After convicting the duo under different sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act the judge ordered that they be sent to the gallows, Joshi said.

Kochi: Unable to bear further humiliation, a 27-year-old married woman against whom obscene messages had been posted on Facebook ended her life by hanging at nearby Cheranallore, police said.

The incident occurred Sunday night in the town, they said.

The woman had earlier approached the police complaining against the accused, who had posted the messages defaming her on the Facebook and sending such messages on her mobile.

Family sources alleged that though she approached police, no complaint was filed. The woman then approached the Kerala High Court, which directed the police in that town to conduct a probe and file a report.

Police, however, said the 30-year-old accused was a relative of the woman and he had been warned to desist from defaming her.

Indore: An eight-year-old school girl forced to stand in the chilling cold during Republic Day celebrations for not wearing a sweater with the school logo suffered vertigo fell down from stairs and fractured her hands.

Identified as Tanisha Kabra, the girl is a sixth standard student of the SKS International School.

"When I reached school yesterday, I was asked to remove my sweater on the ground that it did not have the school logo on it," Tanisha told reporters here on Monday. She was asked to stand in the chilling cold for her 'mistake', the girl said.

Later, Tanisha fell down while climbing the stairs, due to a sudden vertigo because of the cold and ended up fracturing her hand.

All efforts to contact school authorities about the issue proved to be futile. Meanwhile, District Education Officer Sanjay Goyal said that he came to know about the incident through the media and added that strict action would be taken after a probe.

New Delhi: Delhi police on Monday claimed to have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly being part of a gang which used to befriend army personnel at railway stations and bus stands and steal their debit/credit cards with an aim to withdrawing big amounts. 

Mukesh was arrested by Delhi Railway Police on Sunay. He was allegedly part of a gang which came under police's scanner on January 3 when one Ragunath Behera, a serviceman hailing from Odisha, complained that he had been robbed of his bag at New Delhi railway station. 

"At about 6 AM, while he (Behera) was at platform No.16, one person approached him posing as an armyman and struck up a conversation. After some time, the complainant went to the toilet, leaving his bag containing ATM cards with the impersonator," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways), Sanjay Bhatia. 

When he returned, he found that the said person was missing along with his bag. While he was still looking for the conman, the complainant received a message on his cellphone that cash of Rs 51,000 had been withdrawn from his bank accounts through the stolen ATM cards.

On January 22, another armyman, Manoj Kumar Samad, was cheated of his ATM Card in a similar way, said Bhatia. During the probe, details of the stolen ATM cards obtained from the banks and shops revealed that Mukesh was involved in the withdrawal of money at Noida, Uttar Pradesh. 

Mukesh was subsequently arrested when he came to collect money at a petrol pump. An ATM card issued in the name of Manoj Kumar Samad, Rs 2,500, a laptop and a vehicle were recovered from him.

During the interrogation, Mukesh told police that he and his associates had duped several army personnel at railway stations and bus stands in Delhi. Efforts are on to arrest his remaining associates, police said.

Ghaziabad: A 50-year-old godman was on Monday arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 15-year-old girl from Dholana village in Hapur and raping her for ten days, police said.

The girl was rescued and handed over to her parents Monday afternoon. The accused has been identified as Kuberchand alias Pagal Baba, a resident of Meerut, police said.

Kuberchand had visited Dholana's village. There, he lured the girl and took her to Himachal Pradesh for ten days.

"During this period, Kuberchand allegedly raped the minor several times. On Monday, some locals spotted the girl with Kuberchand at the Hapur railway station and informed the police, which arrested him," said a police official.

Kuberchand told the police that he planned to take the girl to Uttarakhand. "Police are interrogating Kuberchand. He used to visit the girl's village often and was highly respected by villagers," the official said.

Airport sources said one Sarbudeen, a Chennai resident, was found hiding two kg of the yellow metal in his shoes. He was arrested late last night upon his arrival from Singapore, the sources added.

Journalist arrested for allegedly blackmailing businessman

Balaghat (MP): A journalist was arrested on the directives of a court here, for allegedly blackmailing a businessman, the police said on Monday.

Police said that a female journalist involved in the matter is absconding.

A businessman, identified as Raja Savlani had filed a private complaint with a local court that journalists Himanshu Jain and Barkha Nag were blackmailing him in connection with a rape incident. He had also submitted evidence like mobile call details and recordings of their conversations to the court to substantiate his complaint.

On the basis of his complaint and available evidence, the court ordered the police to register a case under Sections 384, 417, 429, 120 of the Indian Penal Code and the Income Tax Act's Section 67 against them and also arrest them.

After this, Jain was arrested and produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court from where he was sent to jail under judicial custody. The police is searching for the female journalist.

Thane: A 26-year-old woman deputy sarpanch and her husband were allegedly roughed up by irate locals after she unearthed several cases of power thefts in her village Kunda, district rural police said on Monday. 

The incident took place on Sunday when Asha M Hoge was returning home with her husband on a motorbike after attending the official flag hoisting function on Republic Day in Kunda village of Bhiwandi taluka, they said.

An armed group, including some women, intercepted them and attacked the duo with axe, iron rods, sticks and chilli powder, Police Incharge A B Nimbalkar of Ganeshpuri police station said. The locals were angry on MSEB's action against alleged power thefts in the village, which the deputy sarpanch had brought to their notice, he said. 

An offence under various sections of the IPC was registered against the members of the mob who attacked the couple in front of their house in the village. However no arrest has been made in this connection so far, police added.

The names of the alleged accused were given as Bhagwan Talke, Manohar B Hoge, Barku B Hoge, Arund Agiwale, Neeta M Hoge and Sula A Hoge. The couple, who sustained injuries, was being treated at a local hospital and later discharged, police added.

Berlin: A 16-year-old boy held up a bank in Germany with his toy gun before making off with a four-figure sum, but was quickly arrested while trying to flee on a bicycle.

The teenager tried to escape to Austria after robbing the bank in the Bavarian town of Bad Fuessing, southern Germany, but was arrested before he could reach the border. The boy went into the bank last week brandishing a fake gun and shouted "Hold-up!".

Frightened staff handed over some money to him before the teen made his getaway. The boy then raced off on his bicycle, and was chased by a witness in a car, 'RTE News' reported.

The teen was arrested by police while trying to cross the border into Austria. He admitted to robbing the bank using a toy gun.

Hyderabad teen girl commits suicide after forced marriage

Hyderabad: Depressed over her relatives forcibly marrying her off, a 15 year-old-girl committed suicide about four months after the marriage.

The incident occurred in the Rajendranagar police limits on Saturday night. According to police, the deceased, N. Nandeshwari, was staying with her grandparents after the death of her father. Four months ago one of her relative, Andalu, took her to Yadarigutta and forcibly performed her marriage with one Krishna, an employee of a private firm and resident of Yadagirigutta.

However, a month after the marriage the girl returned to her grandparent’s house in Kismatpur and refused to go back to her husband.

On Saturday, she was rebuked by her family members over the issue. Upset over the issue, she doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze at around 11 P M  on Saturday night. Immediately  She was immediately rushed to Osmania General Hospital where she died on Sunday morning.

Rajendranagar police registered a case under relevant sections of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and 306 IPC (Abetment of Suicide) against her relatives. Further investigations are on.

MBA student held for assaulting neighbours

Bangalore: A 23-year-old MBA student was arrested for allegedly assau­lting two people with a knife when they intervened in a fight bet­ween the suspect and his girlfriend in Viveknagar police limits early Sunday.

The suspect has been identified as Pranoy Upadhyay, a native of West Bengal. Police said Pranoy was pursuing his MBA from Dayananda Sagar College in the city.

He reportedly resides in an apartment in 9th cross, Ejipura. The victims — Arvind and Anupam Minz from Manipur —were his neighbours. 

Around 2:30 am, Arvind and Anupam allegedly heard Pranoy having a heated argument with his girlfriend in the next flat.The duo is said to have gone next door and intervened to stop the fight, which enraged Pranoy.

In the scuffle, Pranoy is said to have picked up a knife and wounded Anupam and Arvind. The Viveknagar police were called and they rushed to the spot.

Arvind and Anupam were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where they are said to be recovering. A case has been registered against Pranoy and further investigations are on.

Tirupati: In a shameful act on the Republic Day, a 7-year-old girl statying at Saraswatinagar in Tirupati was saved from a neighbour’s molestation bid on Sunday.

Palle CI M. Subramanyam said that Basha, a neighbour, called the girl to his home on the pretext of getting a match box. When the girl arrived at this home with the match box, he tried to molest her.

The shocked girl raised an alarm. Hearing the girl’s cries, parents as well as neighbours reached the house but Basha fled. The parents and the neighbours registered a complaint at the Palli Police station. CI M. Subramanyam said  a case was registered under Section 376 F and 511.

And a search has been laid for the accused. The girl was also sent for a medical examination and further investigation is on, according to Palli CI.

Chennai: A 27-year-old woman committed suicide by setting herself on fire after her neighbour allegedly tried to sexually exploit her saying that he had photographed her nude using his mobile phone while she was taking bath at Palli­pattu, in Tiruvallur district. The deceased was identified as Ambika, wife of Kamaraj, a daily wage worker of R.K. Pettai.

The police have arrested Mohan, who had allegedly tried to exploit the woman in the name of the pictures and threatened the victim saying that he may upload the pictures on the Internet. The police detained the accused and scanned his mobile phone to see if he had any nude pictures of the woman, as he claimed.

“Actually, there was no such picture as he claimed. The woman was scared and reportedly believed what the Mohan had told her. She set herself on fire on Wednesday and was admitted to the Sholingur government hospital where she died on Saturday,” the police said.

Chennai: A 30-year-old man was found dead, with cut inju­ries on his face, near Neel­a­­nkarai on Sunday morning. The man was found amid the bushes near Ak­k­arai check-post, Neel­a­n­k­a­rai, around 6 am.

The pol­ice have arrested the man’s brother-in-law and two of his accomplices, who are su­spected to have committed the murder, according to a senior official.

The man, later identified as Shenbagaraj, runs a coffee powder business and is a resident of A.V.M. Ave­n­ue in Viruga­m­bak­kam. Sh­enbagaraj was ma­r­r­ied to Gowri, 27, less than a year ago and the couple used to have frequent qua­r­rels, police investigations revealed.

According to pol­ice sources, the man was be­a­ten and later strangled to death. Investigations revealed that Shenbagaraj’s wife us­ed to complain about his behaviour to his sister, who stays at Tiruva­n­mi­yur with her husband, Kai­lash.

After one such incident on Saturday, Kailash had summoned Shenb­ag­a­raj and questioned him. As the argument escalated, Kailash hit Shenbagaraj with a club and after he fainted, they put him in a vehicle and were on way to a private hospital.

Shenbagaraj regained co­n­sciousness and started ar­guing again, after which Kailash used a nylon rope to strangle him to death. The three persons disp­o­sed of the body amid the bu­­shes and fled, the police official said.

The Neelankarai police re­g­istered a case and arre­s­ted Kailash and two of his accomplices. Further inve­s­tigations are on.

According to police, deceased – Seema Parveen, a student, d/o Mujeebuddin, r/o Rein Bazar Chaman, on Jan 16  she was trying to start a gas stove pump and accidentally flames caught the deceased, due to which she received severe burn injuries, immediately she was shifted to Gandhi hospital for treatment where undergoing treatment she died on Jan 25 late night hours.
