MGU staff union’s charge against govt

The MG University employees union has alleged that the UDF government had thwarted the democratic functioning.

Kottayam: The MG University employees union has alleged that the UDF  government  had thwarted the democratic functioning  and the self-governance rights of the university.

“According to an  amendment to  the law,  the government can sack  the syndicate if the government is displeased with it.  The MG University Syndicate, which had the tenure till February, 2015 was dismissed,” alleged P. Padmakumar,  union president at a press conference.

He said the UDF government had brought in a disgraceful precedent  to invite applications for the post of the Vice-Chancellor. General secretary K.  Sharafudin and other office-bearers  were  present at  the press conference.
