Chennai: Four shops were gutted in a fire accident at R.A.Puram on Thursday. Around 12 noon, a fire broke out at the godown of a private company and spread to three nearby shops, gutting them, rescue personnel said. Since the shops were closed, no casualty was reported.

However, the shops, which housed marriage utensils, were completely damaged and the fire even spread to a truck parked on the roadside.

Five Fire tenders from the nearby Mylapore, Teynampet, Ashok Nagar and Raj bhavan stations rushed to the spot and after a battle that lasted close to an hour, the fire was put off.

The fire also disrupted a meeting held at a nearby premise to pay homage to late actress Anjali Devi, sources said. The reason for the accident is not clear yet and police are investigating further.
