Not just a bestie
Jacob Gregory and Dulquer Salmaan shares an amazing chemistry off screen too
Korah was there to support John every step of the way. Their friendship was an inspiration to all young film buffs in Kerala. Jacob Gregory, who played Korah in ABCD, is all set to amuse viewers in his new film Salala Mobiles, along with Dulquer Salmaan who played John.
“My character ‘Binoy’ will remind everyone that a best friend can make any situation fun, even when disaster strikes,” says Gregory. Gregory plays Dulquer Salmaan’s best buddy in Salala Mobiles. According to the actor, reel buddies are now real buddies and he shares an incredible friendship with Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne. “There is an amazing chemistry between us. We met during the shooting of ABCD. Like the saying ‘Birds of a feather, flock together’, we became buddies very quickly,” smiles the charming actor, who has just finished shooting for Vegam, directed by Anil Kumar.
Being an American Malayalee, who used to visit Kerala only for family gatherings, is all excited about his popularity as an actor. “Although I dreamt of acting in films, Korah came as a blessing. I was a little nervous initially. The support and the dedication of the entire crew, especially Martin Prakkat helped me to come out of my shell.”
The gentle and shy Gregory was a name to reckon amongst Malayalis even before the release of his debut film. As the amiable ‘Girigiri’ in Akkara Kazhchakal, a Malayalam sitcom depicting the lives of Malayalis settled in the United States. “Binoy, Korah and Girigiri are very different from each other. I do not make much about being pigeonholed as a ‘best friend type’. My only aim is to be a part of good films and to give my best to Malayalam cinema,” says Gregory enthusiastically.
What the young actor is particular about is making a fashion statement in his every film. “I want to look different in every film. I am glad that Korah’s style was followed by many.”
His next film 1983 releases next month. “I am not a guy who smiles much so I am always tagged as Jada. But my characters are becoming a part of Malayalee families. That makes me really lucky,” says Gregory politely.
