Thrissur: Noted writer-activist Sarah Joseph on Friday announced her decision to  join the Aam Aadmi Party in Kerala.

“I will apply for the AAP membership when they open their official membership drive in Kerala on January 12,”  she told reporters.  She added that she was much impressed by the concept of  ‘people-centric governance,’  put forward by the party.

With this, she has become the first intellectual  in the state to take a political plunge with the one-year-old  party. “I realise that political decentralisation and Jan Lokpal are dreams, but not utopian, as described by some of the mainstream political parties. I am more than happy to volunteer for achieving this and hence have decided to join the AAP,’’  she said.

According to her, the AAP has the quality to fit into the ‘third space’ created by a series of popular movements starting from the Silent Valley Movement.

The writer reserved her comments on whether she would contest the elections or would take up a key post in the party.  “I am not bothered about all these now,’’  she said.
