Tangedco betters its own record
Tangedco meets the peak demand of 12,582 MW bettering its previous record of 12,144 MW.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation on Tuesday morning met an all time high peak demand of 12,582 megawatt bettering its previous record of 12,144 MW.
On Tuesday morning at 7.50 am, the Tangedco met peak demand of 12,582 MW indicating the state’s increasing load growth and its capacity to met the demand.
The previous record was set only few days back on January 4 at 12,144 MW.
The record demand was met with the “increase supply” from state thermal power station, which generated 3,660 MW and the central generating stations producing 3,314 MW.
Besides, the hydro stations supplied 1,112 MW. Interestingly, the wind power supply was meagre 257 MW.
A senior Tangedco official said that generation from all the five new thermal units in Vallur, Mettur and North Chennai has helped them met the demand.
The Unit-II of North Chennai stage plant, which was shutdown on November 16 following a fire accident, restarted generation on Sunday.
All the new units alone supplying more than 1,700 MW, said the official.
The official added that the chances of the record to be bettered again in the coming days as the Unit-I of 1,000 MW Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tirunelveli district is expected to resume generation in a couple of days.
The increase in the availability of power has helped the Tangedco to do away with prolonged power cuts in the districts. “We are enforcing power cuts only when required,” he said.
