Boy loses ring finger due to doc negligence

Kollam: A boy has lost his right ring finger because of  medical negligence at the taluk hospital, Karunagappally.

Following protests by the DYFI, the doctor concerned  was suspended and the DMO has ordered an investigation by the ADMO.

Amar Vinayak, 14, son of R. Venu of Karunagappally, was taken to the taluk hospital on December 29 after his finger was injured. Dr Thanzeer  dressed up the wound and gave an ointment.  The next day when his  condition worsened,  a hospital in Ernakulam was consulted and it was found that a vein of the finger had a slit and, therefore, removal of the finger was recommended.

Following this, it was amputated at a private hospital in Kottayam on January 1. Amar is a student of  Std. 9 at the Model HSS, Karunagappally.
