Hyderabad: A 25-year-old woman escaped a molestation attempt by a drunken Army jawan on Tuesday by calling 100.

The police has arrested the 30-year-old jawan, Omprakash.

According to the victim, a house maid and resident of Balajinagar, Omprakash called her on Tuesday evening to his house at Bowenpally to cook for him on New Year’s eve.

Since she did not know how to get to his house, Omprakash came to pick her up from Lal Bazaar on his bike.

“After I sat on his bike, I realised that he was in an inebriated condition. While driving, he started speaking to me in an obscene language. He then stopped the bike in a less crowded area and asked me if I was ready to sleep with him. When I got off the bike, he started abusing me. I alerted the locals and called 100,” the woman said in her police complaint.

Bowenpally police, who received the information from the emergency services, rushed to the spot. But Omprakash had driven away by then.

“We booked a case against him under IPC Section 509 for word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, and started a manhunt,” said sub-inspector of Bowenpally police station, B. Srinivas.

On Wednesday morning, police arrested Omprakash following a tip-off.

He was produced before the court in the evening. He belongs to the 10th Regiment stationed at Secunderabad.
